History:
In 1926, William J. Riley, a 33-year-old English emigrant, founded the New Balance Arch Support Company in Boston, Massachusetts, which has been involved in the production of various orthopedic accessories since its inception. In 1934, Riley began working with businessman Arthur Hall. In 1954, Hall sold the company to his daughter Eleanor and her husband Paul Kidd. Medical shoes and orthopedic accessories remain the main production program until 1961, when the Trackster athletic shoes come to the market. The shoes were sold locally and sales steadily declined over time. At the time Jim Davis bought the company (1972), six employees were producing only thirty pairs of shoes a day. In 1978, Anna Davis, the wife of Jim Davis, entered the management structures of the company, who brought a new strategy - she focused on building an extensive structure of NB sales partners throughout the USA, the time was extremely favorable for this decisive change, mainly thanks to the increasing popularity of the Boston Marathon and thereby increasing people's interest in running. Sales of New Balance sports shoes began to skyrocket.
